Anxiety disorders are treated by a family of benzodiazepines; a drug that affects the chemical imbalance of the brain that leads to anxiety problems. There are two main drugs derived from benzodiazepines and they are LORAZEPAM and DIAZEPAM.
Both are chemically strong medicines that with different levels of dosage. Lorazepam is the generic equivalent of ATIVAN and has a higher level of dosage, as 1mg of Lorazepam is equivalent to 10mg of Diazepam, which is the generic equivalent of VALIUM. These are strong medications, and should always be taken under the strict supervision of a doctor, as the medicines have been reported to have an adverse affect on the patient even though treating off the real symptom. For example a lady was affected with paranoia and anger after the using of the drug. She reacted in violent ways towards her colleagues and started to have temper tantrums. The affect soon subsided when the drug was taken off.
Though Lorazepam and Diazepam are of the same category, they have differences and reacts differently, when taken by a patient. The half life of Lorazepam is of 10-20 hours, as compared to that of Diazepam which is of 200 hours. By half life we mean that the blood level for each dose falls by only one half in about 8 days. Diazepam’s half life is better because it allows a gradual fall in blood level, allowing the body to adjust gradually to a decreasing concentration, however, in the case of Lorazepam which causes the blood level to drop quite rapidly, the body has little time to adjust to the decreasing concentration, which causes withdrawal symptoms. Diazepam is taken in smaller dosages from 2mg to 10mg, but in the case of Lorazepam it is difficult to obtain low doses, and thus a person is at once subjected to a very high dosage, which could cause problematic side affects. Thus initially either doctor prescribe Diazepam or when patients are to switch from higher dosages they do not at once quit the medicines rather they are turned to Diazepam, which helps to gradually let the patient adjust to the wearing off the drug. The procedure of leaving the drug is difficult, and should be done through the advice of the doctor.
These medications are highly reactive and dangerous, if not taken with proper care. They should not be taken by women who are pregnant, having any other disease or with alcohol. The medicines give the side affects of drowsiness, change in behavior, irritation, blurred memory as well as blurred vision. The medicine should never be taken under a long term basis, as it is dangerous, creates addiction and may make a person loose both their implicit and explicit memory. Though these medicines are available for online purchase, try not to attempt to buy them without your doctor’s consultancy. Do not be afraid to face a doctor with any problems, as your fear of embarrassment can cause you your life. So, stay healthy, stay safe!
Is Lorezepam Stronger Than Diazepam
Lorazepam is a slightly stronger version – ie can potentiate more and can last longer in the system (half life stuff). Loraz has half life of 12 hours or so – Diazepam is about 4 hours I think.
difference between lorazepam and diazepam?
i was prescribed lorazepam for castration anxiety, and I think I may have had a bedside affect or metathesis to it. I felt more past tense, like I had a knot.
